History

The Battle of Jankov took place on 6 March 1645 and involved the Swedish army. The monument commemorating the Battle of Jankov was erected in 1995 to mark the 350th anniversary of the battle and stands between Jankov and Ratměřice. The memorial room dedicated to the Battle of Jankov is open by arrangement with the municipal office.

Culture

The Church of St. John the Baptist in Jankov is Romanesque and is a single-nave building with a semicircular presbytery. It dates from the first half of the 12th century, was extended after the mid-13th century and remodelled at the end of the 17th century.

The church stands on the northern side of Jankov Square, at the end of the park, on a small promontory above a former fortification. Near the primary school in the upper part of the square in Jankov stands the Chapel of St. John of Nepomuk, an unusual Rococo niche chapel with a statue of St. John of Nepomuk.

Nature and Trails

The Jankov pond system is home to species-rich protected fauna and flora. A nature trail leads to the edge of Džbány-Žebrák Nature Park.

The longer loop of the educational trail “In the Footsteps of the Battle of Jankov” is approximately 14 kilometres long; the shorter loop via the “U Hartman” viewpoint is approximately 9 kilometres long. The section from Jankov Square to the monument commemorating the Battle of Jankov is also accessible to wheelchair users.
