Dolní Břežany presents history and landscape at specific sites: the chateau and chapel, early medieval fortifications, a lookout tower on Hradiště Závist, as well as cycle paths in the Dolní Břežany area and destinations in the surrounding region give the town a multifaceted character.
Culture and History
The Chapel of Saint Mary Magdalene was added to Dolní Břežany Chateau between 1885 and 1887. Hradišťátko, an early medieval fortified settlement on a promontory, is located in the western neighbouring area of the municipality of Dolní Břežany. The fortification of Hradišťátko has survived as a sharply defined edge. The former rampart is best preserved on the south-western and eastern sides; a ditch was also dug in front of the rampart.
The Regional Information Centre in Dolní Břežany presents the local settlement history from prehistory to the present day. The ZÁVIST CAVE in this information centre is a multi-projector installation for visualising historical scenes.
Landscape and Trails
The viewing platform of the lookout tower on Hradiště Závist is 24 metres above the ground. The lookout tower has 128 steps. Another tangible connection between trail and history is the 16.3-kilometre route “Přes Šance do Károvského údolí”. It passes through the Šance section of Hradiště Závist, where visible remains of Celtic defensive ramparts have been preserved.
There are several cycle routes in the Dolní Břežany area. They are connected to Prague’s cycling network and the national cycling network, or prepared for such a connection. There are rest areas and information boards along the cycle routes.
