Belá Pod Bezdezem preserves several historic sites and offers special insights, including Bělský zámek, Česká brána, sacred buildings, and the Bělá Arboretum.

Culture and History

Bělský zámek was built between 1582 and 1615 on the site of an earlier castle or fortress. The palace houses the Muzeum Podbezdězí, a branch of the Muzeum Mladoboleslavska. There is also an information centre with exhibitions and a tour of the palace.

Česká brána is one of the original gates that served as an entrance to Bělá pod Bezdězem. It was extensively restored in 2004; its interior, which has been made accessible, houses a gallery.

The Church of the Elevation of the Holy Cross contains a Pietà carving from the 14th century. Its sacristy has been preserved in its original Gothic style with a cross vault. The complex with the Augustinian monastery and the Church of Saint Wenceslas dates back to a monastery founded in 1345 by Hynek Berka z Dubé for members of the Order of Saint Augustine.

Nature

The Bělá Arboretum is a collection of living woody plants in the form of a dendrological garden.

Special Insights

In the exhibition on the Bělá manufactory, visitors can try out the role of an apprentice at spinning wheels, a loom, and a printing press.
