History

Present-day Kanfanar developed from the former settlements of Parentino and Moncastello. Moncastello was later called Duecastello and is now known as Dvigrad. Its inhabitants left the settlement in 1631; parts of the ruins were later used as building material for present-day Kanfanar.

Kanfanar is located at an altitude of approximately 281 metres above sea level, about 20 kilometres east of Rovinj and 30 kilometres north of Pula.
