Jahorina presents an unusually diverse winter sports setting: In addition to extensive alpine ski slopes, illuminated runs for night skiing are just as much a part of the area as long hiking and cycling routes through forests and over mountain peaks. As a result, very different types of landscapes and activities exist side by side within a compact thematic area.

Winter

The Jahorina ski area has 52 kilometres of alpine ski slopes and 11 homologated ski slopes. It is served by 17 vertical transport facilities. Even after nightfall, winter sports remain a defining part of the offering: Jahorina has a total of 8.5 kilometres of illuminated slopes for night skiing, including 3.5 kilometres of newly illuminated slopes that comply with FIS standards. The Poljice slope is fully illuminated according to FIS standards and ready for night skiing.

Nature

Jahorina is home to evergreen forests and mountain springs. The landscape is shaped not only by woodland and water, but also by clearly named high points and trails that open up different sides of the area.

Trails

The 2,513-metre-long “Trail of Love” hiking trail leads through forests with forest streams, rapids and wooden bridges. It follows Bistrica Creek and crosses it at several points. The “Olympic Trail” offers a different route: The 4,203-metre-long hiking and cycling route leads through the Jahorina weekend settlement.

At 8,108 metres, the “Trail of Health” is considerably longer; as a hiking trail, it leads to the Hladilo cliff. The Sports and Recreational Trail measures 13,089 metres, is designed as a hiking and cycling route, and leads to the summit of Ogorjelica. Ogorjelica is also the highest peak of Jahorina, reaching an elevation of 1,916 metres.

There is also specific infrastructure for mountain biking: The cabins of the six-seater chairlift on the downhill mountain biking trail are equipped with bicycle racks. In winter, a simple snowshoe hike complements the trail network. It leads across Gola Jahorina and along forest paths over the Kalaidža rock.

Culture

Sports history remains visible in the names and events of the area. The “Olympic giant slalom” slope continues to bear this name. Competitions in women’s giant slalom, slalom and downhill have also been held in Jahorina.

Starting Point

Jahorina is located 25 kilometres from Sarajevo International Airport. Thus, in addition to the landscape and winter sports, the specified geographical location is also one of the area’s concrete features.

The specified information about the respective conditions also deserves attention so that the differences between the offers remain clear.
