Holiday apartment in Međugorje: Pilgrimage sites, culture and karst landscape

Međugorje is a place where religious life, distinctive paths, culture and the Herzegovinian karst landscape exist closely side by side. St. James Parish Church is now the focal point and centre of sacramental and religious life for parishioners and pilgrims. Its construction lasted from 1934 until its consecration on 19 January 1969.

Pilgrimage sites and paths

The pilgrimage site includes an outdoor altar, which was built in 1989. The surrounding prayer area provides seating for around 5,000 people. At the foot of Apparition Hill is the Blue Cross, which was erected there in 1985. Information boards have been installed at the three sites of Apparition Hill, Cross Mountain and Blue Cross.

Cross Mountain is a 520-metre-high mountain above Međugorje. On 15 March 1934, parishioners erected an 8.56-metre-high concrete cross on this mountain. The Way of the Cross on Cross Mountain is marked by bronze reliefs installed in 1988. A steep path leads from the houses to the site of the apparitions. Along the ascent to Apparition Hill, bronze reliefs depicting the joyful and sorrowful mysteries of the Rosary were installed in 1989.

Culture and history

The Muzej Naša Majka is a cultural complement to the religious sites. The sculpture Ruke by academic artist Josip Ivešić is located in the square in front of the museum. The Muzej Naša Majka uses digital technology, holograms and video projections to present Brotnjo and the history of Brotnjo and Međugorje. It is the first museum in the area of the municipality of Čitluk and Međugorje and has been a new cultural and artistic centre since April 2022.

Vinarija Dodig and its selection of wines

Vinarija Dodig is located in the Međugorje Sports Centre. There, visitors can taste Žilavka, Žilavka selekcija, Blatina, Trnjak, Blatina Riserva, Oranž, Rose, Bordo kupaža, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Plavac.
