At the municipal level, Siheung offers a range of nature and coastal attractions: a designated wetland, tidal flats, lotus and aquatic plants, and views of the west coast. Archaeological traces and a planned water sports complex add to these highlights. They offer different ways to experience a stay—from observing nature and taking walks to exploring history and water sports.

Wetlands, Plants and Trails

Siheung Gaetgol Ecological Park is designated as a national wetland protection area. Visitors can observe salt-tolerant plants such as 칠면초, 나문재 and 퉁퉁마디, as well as animals such as 붉은발 농게 and 방게. Individual sightings are not guaranteed. The park also has tactile audio information boards, level paths and ramps as accessibility features. If you rely on specific access provisions, check their current condition before your visit.

The Lotus Theme Park features various lotus flowers and aquatic plants. Lotus blossoms generally reach their peak from early to around late July; timing can vary from year to year. Walking and cycling paths run around the park. If you are especially interested in the blossoms, you can take this approximate period into account when planning. The paths also offer a distinct focus for visitors who want to explore the area on foot or by bike.

Oido: Coastal Views and History

Oido is considered one of Siheung’s attractions: visitors can see sunsets over the sea and a red lighthouse there. Historically, Oido lay off Siheung’s southwest coast and was originally an island. When its tidal flats were used for salt production, Oido became connected to the mainland. This sequence links the island’s history with the use of its tidal landscape.

Oido Marine Complex includes a lighthouse observation deck overlooking the West Sea landscape and Hwangsaebawi-gil, where visitors can observe creatures living on the tidal flats. Oido Prehistory Park has an observation deck for watching sunsets over the west coast and a reed trail suited to walks. Shell middens dating from the early Iron Age to the Proto-Three Kingdoms period have been found at the Oido archaeological site. Coastal views, tidal-flat observation, walks and archaeological topics thus offer different interests side by side.

Nature Program and Water Sports

A 2025 description presents the Gaetgol Festival as an ecological festival with a range of nature-related programs. Its setting is a landscape where old salt fields meet wetlands. The program may vary from one edition to another. The festival thus combines nature themes with a landscape where tidal flats and salt fields come together.

A 2025 description presents a water sports complex under development on Turtle Island. Planned attractions are to include, among other things, Wave Park, a diving pool, yachts and banana boats, along with other water sports and recreational activities. Individual facilities and offerings may change.

If you are traveling with family, you can first consider whether nature observation, coastal views and walks, or historical topics are your priority. Travel dates also matter when looking for a vacation rental if lotus blossoms are a main interest: they generally peak from early to around late July, and timing can vary from year to year. The water sports complex on Turtle Island, by contrast, is described as a development project; individual offerings may change.
