Icheon offers a range of ways to experience art and ceramics: you can visit workshops, watch the production process or work with clay yourself. There is also an art museum, paths by Seolbong Lake and Seolbongsan, and a ski resort. When planning a trip to Icheon, it’s worth first deciding whether you want to focus primarily on culture, hands-on ceramic experiences, walks or skiing.

Art and Ceramics in Icheon

The Woljeon Museum of Art Icheon celebrates the Korean artist Woljeon Chang Woo Soung and his works. In August 2007, the museum was moved to Icheon in accordance with Woljeon’s wishes; personal mementos were also added to the collection. If you’re interested in the person behind the works, this offers a different way to experience art than a visit to a ceramics workshop.

Icheon Ceramics Village is home to around 80 ceramic factories and about 300 kilns in use. Visitors can watch the ceramic-making process there. This makes it an interesting place to visit if you want to learn how the pieces are made, rather than just view the finished items. At Icheon Ye's Park, various ceramics workshops are gathered in one village. You can visit the workshops; some offer pottery classes where visitors can make their own pieces. Ceramic goods are also available to buy there.

A ceramics discount event is held at Ye's Park every spring and autumn. When planning your travel dates, you can consider this recurring seasonal event as an additional reason to visit; no specific event date is implied. The focus here is on workshops, making your own pieces and ceramics, while the museum offers a look at one artist and his work.

Create Your Own Ceramics

At Gilsangyo, you first choose a design and then make pottery with expert guidance. This 30-minute experience offers a hands-on way to explore ceramics: visitors paint and then fire their pieces. Some workshops at Icheon Ye's Park also offer classes where you can create your own pieces. If you’d rather watch or visit a variety of workshops, you can visit Icheon Ceramics Village or the workshops at Ye's Park instead.

Cerapia in Seolbong Park offers hands-on ceramics programmes for visitors. Seolbong Park is also the venue for the Gyeonggi International Ceramic Biennale. Visitors can explore ceramics at the Haegang Ceramics Art Center. These places add further opportunities to engage with the material and its design alongside visits to workshops.

Walks, Seasons and Other Activities

A circular route along Seolbong Lake is used as a walking path. Seolbongsan has a well-maintained hiking trail, as well as up to eight natural springs with clear water. This means you can make walks or a hike a focus of your trip, alongside visits to art and ceramics attractions.

At Icheon Sansuyu Village, the sansuyu trees turn yellow in spring and bear bright red berries in autumn. These seasonal sights differ from the ceramics offerings and may influence your choice of travel dates, depending on your interests. For a completely different activity, Jisan Forest Ski Resort has ski slopes for skiers of different ability levels. When choosing your holiday rental in Icheon, your preferred focus can help guide you: ceramics and art, walks and hikes, or skiing. Consider which experiences you’d like to include during your stay.
