Discover Trafalgar
Accommodation in Trafalgar
In Trafalgar, village amenities meet special nature experiences: Papillote Tropical Gardens opens its gardens and volcanic hot pools to day visitors by advance reservation. Nearby, Trafalgar Falls offer further opportunities for exploration. This combination gives you different options when planning your trip—from staying in the village to excursions into the surrounding countryside.
Village Amenities and Garden Visits
The village has small shops, pubs, snack bars, and street stalls. They offer local food and drinks, eggs, fresh fruit, and juices. The selection may vary by business. For planning your stay, these options give you an idea of what you can find in the village—whether you want to try something or buy local produce.
Papillote Tropical Gardens is a separate visitor attraction: day visitors can access the gardens and volcanic hot pools by advance reservation. Confirm the arrangements before your trip. This lets you plan a garden visit specifically, rather than assuming you can drop in spontaneously.
Water Experiences Nearby
At Trafalgar Falls, visitors can swim in the pool beneath the smaller waterfall. At the tallest cascade, you can visit the hot springs. This gives you a choice of two different water experiences in the same area: a swim in the pool and a visit to the springs.
Excursions elsewhere in the wider destination of Saint George may also be important when planning your trip; the following places and routes belong to this broader area and are not features of Trafalgar itself.

Segment 4 of the Waitukubuli National Trail runs from Wotten Waven to Pont Casse. It lies in the heart of the Morne Trois Pitons National Park UNESCO World Heritage Site and offers views of five mountains. The route is about 13.3 kilometers long, takes six hours to complete, and ends at the Waitukubuli National Trail Research and Interpretation Facility in Pont Casse. These details give you a clear idea of the length, duration, and destination of this hiking section.
Trafalgar Falls consists of the twin cascades Papa Falls, 85 meters high, and Mama Falls, 40 meters high. A ten-minute trail leads from the parking lot to a viewing platform. A hot spring flows across the trail toward the falls. Middleham Falls is another hiking destination in its own right: the trail runs through the rainforest of Morne Trois Pitons National Park and takes 45 minutes; it is rated easy to moderate. The waterfall is 200 feet high, and the pool below is suitable for swimming, though it is a little cool.
The moderate, 1¼-mile trail to Boeri Lake starts at Freshwater Lake. The lake sits at an elevation of 2,800 feet and covers about four acres. It lies in the crater of an ancient volcano where Morne Macaque, also known locally as Morne Micotrin, was formed; the mountain separates Boeri Lake from Freshwater Lake. The latter is Dominica’s largest lake.
Other destinations offer different experiences: the trail to Boiling Lake passes through the Valley of Desolation, through volcanic terrain dotted with sulfur springs and steaming mud pools. Tours to the lake depart from Laudat; hikers must be accompanied by a certified local guide. Check this requirement and departure arrangements before setting out. At Titou Gorge, a short swim from the foot of a waterfall takes you through natural chambers and pools formed by high rock walls covered by intertwined trees.
