Loubiere: History and Experiences in Saint George

The route is about 13.3 kilometres long, can be completed in six hours, and offers views of five mountains. Its endpoint is the Waitukubuli National Trail Research and Interpretation Facility in Pont Casse. This makes it possible to plan a longer hike with a clearly named route and a designated destination.

A shorter time frame is given for the Middleham Trail: the easy-to-moderate hike to the 200-foot-high Middleham Falls takes 45 minutes. It leads into the rainforest of Morne Trois Pitons National Park. The pool below the falls is suitable for swimming, although it is a little cool. The time estimates clearly distinguish this destination from Segment 4 without requiring a walking time to be inferred from the route’s length.

Trafalgar Falls also offers several specific points of reference. The twin cascades are called Papa Falls and Mama Falls; Papa Falls is 85 metres high and Mama Falls is 40 metres high. A ten-minute path leads from the car park to a viewing platform. Visitors can swim at the smaller waterfall, and a hot spring flows across the path to the falls. The destination thus combines a viewpoint, cascades of different heights, and the option of swimming at the smaller waterfall.

At Titou Gorge, a short swim leads from the base of a waterfall through several natural chambers and pools. High rock walls, roofed by intertwined trees, define this passage. Boiling Lake is in Morne Trois Pitons National Park; the trail passes through the Valley of Desolation, past sulfur springs, steaming mud pools, and volcanic terrain. Tours to Boiling Lake start in Laudat, and hikers must be accompanied by a certified local guide. Check tour arrangements before setting out.

Lakes and Hikes of Varying Lengths

Freshwater Lake is Dominica’s largest lake. The moderate hike to Boeri Lake starts there and covers a distance of 1¼ miles. Boeri Lake sits at an elevation of 2,800 feet and covers about four acres. It lies in an old volcanic crater in which Morne Macaque, also known as Morne Micotrin, was formed. When choosing excursions, you can consider the hike at one lake and the view of a smaller, higher-altitude lake as different points of interest.
