Uddheden combines the history of a church village with a variety of waterside trails. The settlement developed as a church village and centre in the Rottnadalen valley. This gives you a range of experiences to choose from when planning your trip: you can discover Gräsmark Church and its surroundings, enjoy an easy hike by the lake, follow a canoe route or explore the delta landscape of the Rottnan River.

Church, Lake and Local History

Gräsmark Church is a stone church built between 1733 and 1739. It stands on a headland in Lake Udden, shaping a landscape where culture and water can be experienced side by side. The church’s ceiling painting is particularly noteworthy: it depicts the Last Judgment and was created by Erik Jonaeus. Gräsmark Cemetery is also picturesquely situated by Lake Udden, which borders it to the north and east.

If you are planning a stay in Uddheden, you can include the view across Lillsjön and the church as a viewpoint in your day’s itinerary. Lillsjön bathing area faces south. Lake Udden is known locally as Lillsjön, so you will encounter both names in connection with the trails and water-based experiences around Uddheden.

Hiking on Short and Varied Trails

For a manageable hike, Lillsjön runt is a good option. The easy trail is 4.5 kilometres long and starts at Gräsmark Church. It leads around Lake Udden, passes through the centre of Uddheden and offers beautiful views of the lake and Gräsmark Church. This allows you to combine a cultural highlight with a circuit outdoors without having to plan a longer route for this excursion.

Deltarundan offers a different landscape. The route runs along the edge of Uddheden through a delta landscape. The Uddheden–Gräsmarksdeltat hiking trail is an easy route of approximately 4.8 kilometres along the delta of the Rottnan River. It starts at the southern end of Rottnavallen. A shorter option starts at a road near the old sawmill, where there is a small car park. These two starting points are useful if you want to plan your hike according to the desired trail length.

Canoeing, Swimming and Winter Activities

The surroundings can also be explored on the water. The canoe route in Gräsmark is 11.6 kilometres long and has two signposted launch points. It follows a section of the Rottnan River past Uddheden, continues via Sågendammen to Lillsjön and ends at the bathing area. If you are looking for a holiday apartment in Uddheden, you can therefore consider whether a trip focused on hiking, water or culture best suits your daily rhythm, without having to combine these activities into a single route.

Uddheden also has cross-country ski trails with electric lighting along the Rottnan River. This winter offering complements the hiking and canoeing opportunities available during the warmer seasons.
