Gräsmarken combines nature experiences, waterscapes and cultural history to create a diverse travel destination. Three nature reserves, numerous hiking trails and several bathing spots offer different opportunities for active days, peaceful hours by the water and shared discoveries. If you are looking for a holiday apartment or holiday home, the desired mix of hiking, swimming, paddling and culture can be a helpful starting point for planning your trip.

Nature reserves, hiking trails and distinctive landscapes

Tiskaretjärn is a nature reserve and at the same time a characteristic setting of Finnbygden. This cultural landscape emerged from Finnish colonisation in the late 16th century. In Tiskaretjärn, you can experience the traditional cultural landscape and buildings of Finnskogen. In this way, the area combines nature and settlement history in a distinctive manner.

For a very easy hike, Deltaleden is a good choice. The route is 4.8 km long and mostly follows the Rottnan River to Lake Rottnen. Those planning a hiking day with viewpoints will find a different character on Västra Råtjärnsleden: The trail climbs to several viewpoints. The route is 8 km long and is located in the scenic surroundings of Gräsmarken; it was formerly called Styggbergsstigen. It is possible to start at Naturcamping Lagom; alternatively, you can park at the nearby bathing spot.

The landscape itself also offers remarkable details. The hyperite rock in the Västra Råtjärnsleden area has contributed to the formation of nutrient-rich moraine and supports a diverse flora there. Ängenleden runs around Ängsjön and offers numerous nature and cultural experiences.

Lakes, bathing spots and days by the water

The numerous lakes and waterways in Gräsmarken offer good opportunities for swimming, paddling and fishing. Trötvik is located on Rottnen, a 700-metre-long, south-facing sandy beach with a gently sloping sandy bottom. Deltaleden and Trötvik can be viewed as different travel ideas: One route follows the water along a short, very easy trail, while the other place represents an extended stay on the sandy beach.

Finnskogen, mining and regional history

Finnsjöns vandringsled conveys the history of the region at the intersection of the Forest Finn heritage and Swedish summer-farm culture. Gruvrundan offers another historical perspective. It leads through the Mangen mining area between Lakes Mången and Trehörningen and passes the remains of copper works, ore-processing plants, mines, an ore transport cableway, slag heaps and a soapstone quarry.

Gräsmarks kyrka is also one of the possible cultural destinations. From 1 November to 30 April, it is open Tuesday to Friday from 10:00 to 14:00. From 1 May to 31 October, opening hours are Tuesday to Friday from 10:00 to 16:00. On Saturdays and Sundays, the church is accessible in connection with services and ceremonies. Take these times into account if you would like to combine your stay with a visit to the church.

The right accommodation idea for your stay

When looking for accommodation in Gräsmarken, it is worth first determining your preferred daily rhythm. A holiday apartment or holiday home can then suit your personal focus between nature, water and culture.
