Molkom combines a distinctive lake landscape with hiking trails, industrial history and unusual cultural sites. This allows you to plan your stay in different ways: with a day by the water, a circular hike, historical discoveries or a visit to the Ängsbacka course and festival centre, which offers yoga, tantra and meditation. When looking for a holiday apartment or holiday home in Molkom, it helps to first choose the experiences that should form the focus of your trip.

Lakes and days by the water

A waterfront promenade runs along the shores of Lake Molkomsjön and Lake Borssjön. Molkom’s lake landscape offers opportunities for swimming, fishing and ice skating, making it suitable for different travel seasons and daily itineraries. One specific bathing spot is Graningebadet on Lake Molkomsjön. There is a small bathing area with a sandy beach and large grassy areas.

Hiking trails for different daily itineraries

In the surrounding area, Brattforsheden offers hiking trails with a total length of 75 kilometres. The Prostgårdsslingan is suitable for a manageable circular tour: the trail is 4 kilometres long and starts and ends in Molkom. The Acksjöleden adds three circular trails of approximately 3.5, 9 and 15 kilometres, starting at Acksjöns skola. This allows you to choose between a shorter loop and a longer hike without confusing the different trail lengths.

The Vildmarksleden can be started in Molkom. Important for planning your day: it is not accessible with a pushchair or wheelchair. Along the trail are remains of charcoal kilns where charcoal was once produced. The trail through Molkomsmossen also passes through a former peat extraction area; clear traces of the extraction are visible along the route. Those interested in how the landscape was used and in its history will find tangible traces of past activities here.

Culture and history in the townscape

Molkom’s townscape reflects agricultural activities, its history as a bruksort and industrialisation. In Bruksparken, a stone foundation, two storage buildings and parts of a landscaped garden remain from Molkom Manor. A slagstone retaining wall near Nyeds kyrka bears witness to Molkom’s early iron processing. These places make historical themes tangible not only through dates, but also through preserved structural traces.

A special cultural site is the Krigsflygfält 16 cultural reserve on Brattforsheden. The world’s only facility of its kind from the Second World War lies between Molkom and Filipstad in Värmland. In Upperud, farm buildings and local heritage buildings form a small, picturesque village ensemble with a clearly recognisable older character of Molkom. Dance events are still held at Upperudslogen. In addition, Antik och Design offers a 600-square-metre antiques shop on two floors in Molkom.

Nature reserves for special excursions

Northwest of Molkom lies Torskeds nature reserve between Älvsbacka hembygdsgård and Lake Östra Örten. The area is important for biological diversity, landscape character and recreation. In the surrounding area, Råglandaberget nature reserve covers a 10.6-hectare forest area. The hyperite rock creates conditions for a rich variety of plant and animal life; the mountain ridge offers extensive views.

Choosing Molkom as a suitable base

A holiday apartment in Molkom can suit different travel plans if you want to combine hiking, experiences by the water and culture. When choosing your accommodation, consider which activities you want to do on individual days and whether the focus is on a shorter circular tour, a longer trail or a historical excursion. For families with different interests, the variety of destinations makes it possible to enjoy varied days together without having to plan every activity in the same way.
