Klavreström combines an industrial past with a lake landscape and active experiences. Klafreströms Bruk was founded in 1736 on the Klavreda ström, a flowing waterway between the dammed Änghultasjön and Norrsjön. Those planning a trip with culture, nature and varied daily activities will find several clearly distinct starting points here when choosing a holiday apartment or holiday home.

Industrial History by the Water

The Klavreströms järnbruksmuseum presents the history of Klafreströms Bruk from 1736 to 1972. The exhibition features cast-iron objects ranging from bar iron to modern cast-iron boilers for residential buildings. This makes it possible to trace the development of the former ironworks not only through dates, but also through concrete products.

The historic industrial environment also includes buildings that reflect different stages in the development of the area since the 18th century. The manor house still stands today, although Klafreströms Bruk closed in the 1970s. Klavreström Mill is a characteristic building in this environment. It was extensively renovated in 2019 and 2020, while much of its appearance was preserved. Uppvidinge Municipality received the Building Conservation Award in 2020 for the renovation. The historic industrial environment is still used by various industrial and tourism businesses today.

Lake, Protected Areas and Marked Trails

With an area of 416 hectares and a depth of 30 metres, Änghultasjön is a prominent body of water in the upper reaches of the Mörrumsån. The Änghults björkhage nature reserve lies on its shore. Oak dominates the tree layer there, while hazel grows in the understorey. The area was formerly pasture for the smiths of Klafreströms Bruk. Those wishing to combine nature and local history during their stay in Klavreström can deliberately incorporate this landscape aspect into their daily plans.

Further afield, Libbhults ängar lies approximately one kilometre west of the town; there are marked trails there.

Hiking, Paddling and Other Activities

The 37-kilometre Vildmarksleden hiking trail runs through the north-western part of Uppvidinge Municipality, from Norrhult and Klavreström in the south to Lindshammar in the north. For a shorter plan, the Klavreström–Kolvesjö section is a good option: it is 13.0 kilometres long and takes 3–4 hours on foot. These clearly named routes make it easier to choose accommodation according to your preferred daily rhythm without having to plan the entire trail.

There are also various opportunities on the water and in the forest. Little Rock Lake Zipline has more than four kilometres of zipline routes through the forest. The Base Camp in Klavreström is open for spontaneous nature experiences without booking. In addition, a four-hour guided canoe experience is offered, combining paddling with nature, local history and stories about Klavreström and its historic industrial community.

For Änghultasjön, the fishing permit allows fishing with hand-held tackle, ice fishing with ten anglers, as well as trolling from a rowing boat and trolling with two rods. Uppvidinge Golfklubb is located east of Änghultasjön and has a nine-hole course and a driving range. This allows you to choose different focuses for individual days, including a hiking route, a water-based experience, fishing, golf and industrial history.

Guidance for Choosing Accommodation

For regional orientation, Norrhult/Klavreström is located in the western part of Uppvidinge Municipality on National Road 31. When searching for a holiday apartment or holiday home, you can therefore first decide which experiences should define your stay: the historic surroundings of the former ironworks, the landscape around Änghultasjön, a section of the Vildmarksleden or an active day at Little Rock Lake. Klavreström is therefore suitable as a base for planning a trip that deliberately combines cultural and natural themes.
