Fröseke brings together a waterscape, protected nature and local history. The 150-hectare forest lake Uvasjön is near Fröseke, and the Alsterån flows through the lake. There is also a bathing area on the edge of the village, two nature reserves and evidence from different periods of the village’s history. This gives you the opportunity to focus on different interests during your stay, rather than reducing Fröseke to a single excursion destination.

Uvasjön and the Alsterån

The lake and river are directly connected here: the Alsterån runs through Uvasjön. The Uvasjön bathing area is on the edge of Fröseke, while Fröseke Park is on the Alsterån. This means there are several different ways to enjoy the water: the forest lake itself, the river, and a specific place designated as a bathing area. However, these refer to different places, not to one continuous stretch of waterfront.

Ravine, forest and open marshes

Hinkaryd Nature Reserve lies 0.5 kilometres south of Fröseke. A marked trail leads around its ravine. Bockaskruv Nature Reserve lies between Alstermo and Fröseke, covers 198 hectares and consists of forest and open marshes. The two areas can be distinguished by their described landscapes: Hinkaryd centres on the ravine and its marked trail, while Bockaskruv is characterised by forest and marshland. Bockaskruv’s landscape features are complemented by traces of history: the reserve contains remains of hay sheds, tar pits and evidence of iron smelting. Both nature and past use are therefore part of what defines the area.

Chapel, mills and Uvaparken

Fröseke Chapel lies just north of Fröseke, in a cultural landscape of fields and meadows. The building is a red-painted wooden structure. Regular services are held at Fröseke Chapel; check the current service schedule before visiting. The two mills in Fröseke offer another perspective on the village’s history. They illustrate the development from village mills to more industrial forms of processing. Both waterwheels at each of the two mills have been preserved. This refers to two mills and their respective waterwheels; together, the sites tell the story of technological change, not just a single building.

Uvaparken also has a historical connection: it was established in 1945 with a dance floor and a lottery stand. The details on record name two specific facilities in the park from that time. Together with the history of the mills, this creates a cultural theme encompassing different aspects of village life: community leisure at Uvaparken and processing at the mills. Alongside nature, local history and former everyday and working life can thus also be interests to explore during your stay.

What would you like your stay to focus on?

When planning, you can start by choosing between themes: Uvasjön and the Alsterån represent the waterscape; Hinkaryd and Bockaskruv offer ravines, forests and marshes; and the chapel, mills and Uvaparken provide points of connection to local history. If you are travelling with children or in a group, you can make your choice based on which of these themes interests everyone most.
