Discover Hede: Hiking, Culture and Nature
Accommodation in Hede
Hede is located in Sonfjällsbygden in the heart of Härjedalen and is considered a starting point for hiking with views of the Härjedalen mountain landscape. The village combines walking trails, river landscapes, fishing waters and regional culture. This makes Hede suitable for travel plans where the same thing does not have to be on the agenda every day: a walk through the landscape can be followed by a cultural visit, while other days can be devoted to fishing, golf or a local attraction.
Walking Trails Between the Village Centre and the Ljusnan
Three walking trails start from the centre of Hede. They are marked with the difficulty levels green, blue and red, allowing you to choose according to the type of trail you prefer. One route follows the Ljusnan. There are picnic areas with tables, benches and a barbecue. Those travelling with several generations or planning a day with different interests can treat the walking trails as a separate item on the itinerary and choose a route to suit the day’s plans.
You can reach the parking area for the walking trails after turning off the main road, Inger Grannesväg, National Road 84, towards Hede Camping. It is on the right-hand side by the fitness trail and playground. This specific direction helps with planning an excursion without linking the trails to a particular accommodation.
Churches, Exhibitions and Regional History
A prominent cultural landmark is the present-day Hede Church, which was built between 1770 and 1775. Next to the church stands a free-standing bell tower with an onion-shaped dome, built in 1751. The interior features a local style variant known as Härjedal Rococo. For travellers who appreciate architectural history and regional design, Hede Church offers several specific details to discover.
The tourist information centre in Hede houses several exhibitions, including one about Sonfjället. A permanent exhibition focuses on Sonfjället and its national park. The educational trail at Hede hembygdsgård also features wooden replicas of 18th-century milestones and original cast-iron milestones from the 19th century. Sockenstugan at Hede hembygdsgård was formerly a school and community hall; it is estimated to date from between 1850 and 1870. Today, it is used as a weaving room. During festivals, the dish known as Härjedalen’s national dish, “flötgröt”, is prepared there.
Fishing, Fly Fishing and Golf
In Hede, there are opportunities to fish for game fish in around thirty waters. Some of these fishing lakes are located in mountainous landscapes at elevations of up to 1,000 metres. A dedicated section for fly fishing has been established in the Ljusnan downstream from Hede. Those looking for a holiday apartment or holiday home for their trip can therefore consider Hede as a base for a variety of nature-related interests. The golf course of Hede-Vemdalens Golfklubb is located on managed meadowland in a sand delta formed in the Ljusnan valley.
Hede as a Suitable Base for Planning Your Trip
Accommodation in Hede can be incorporated into your plans especially if you would like to combine hiking, landscapes and culture. You can treat the three walking trails, the exhibitions, Hede Church or the fishing opportunities as separate focal points instead of structuring the trip around a single activity. For orientation in the village: the swimming pool in Hede is located by the school. If you would like to compare other destinations for your travel plans, you can find Messlingen, Lillhärdal, Hedeviken, Vemhån, Funäsdalen, Ytterhogdal, Bruksvallarna and Lofsdalen here.
