Bruksvallarna
Accommodation in Bruksvallarna
Bruksvallarna combines open mountain landscapes, mountain birch forests and a variety of trails with a strong cross-country skiing tradition. The Ljusnan River flows past the village. Those looking for an apartment or holiday home for their vacation can choose between active winter days, scenic hikes, regional culture and summer excursions.
Cross-country skiing and winter sports in Bruksvallarna
The Bruksvallarna–Ramundberget valley has 110 kilometres of groomed cross-country ski trails. In addition, Bruksvallarna provides access to a 300-kilometre network for cross-country skiing and ski touring. For a shorter training session, there is a 3.5-kilometre illuminated ski trail; the lighting stays on until 8:00 p.m. This makes it possible to combine different daily plans, from an extended outing on the trails to a later loop.
There are also specific options beyond classic cross-country skiing: the Rullskidbana is a 9-kilometre paved roller-ski track from the Bruksvallarna ski stadium to Ramundberget. Bruksvallarna is also part of a snowmobile trail network; a loading and unloading station is available at the village petrol station. The ski bus serves Bruksvallarna and is free for holders of a valid lift pass or trail pass.
A special event in the Swedish cross-country skiing calendar is the Bruksvallsloppet. It takes place every year in Bruksvallarna, is considered the traditional start to the Swedish cross-country skiing season and has a history spanning more than 30 years.
Hiking trails between mountains, forests and history
The Byturen Bruksvallarna hike follows the 1,000-year-old pilgrimage route Romboleden. Along the trail are graves dating from the Viking Age. Those looking for a shorter route explicitly described as easy can choose the 7-kilometre Päråkerstigen, which begins at the Bruksvallarna Arena.
Säterturen is a scenic circular hike through a well-preserved summer pasture area in the mountain landscape at the foot of Mittåkläppen. Kariknallsrundan runs through mountain birch forest, across grassy marshes with numerous mountain flowers and past a stream. The summit hut on Kariknallen is located 1,050 metres above sea level. These varied trail characteristics help you plan your vacation days according to length, scenery and the experience you are looking for.
Chapel, mining history and regional specialities
Bruksvallarnas fjällkapell is a low chapel built from logs, with a church room and a mortuary room. It was inaugurated on 2 September 1978 by Bishop Bertil Werkström. The Gruvturen offers another insight into the region's history. It passes an old miners' cabin with an outdoor barbecue area, as well as several mining areas where copper and iron ore were extracted for more than 200 years from the 17th century onwards.
Regional places to eat and shop are also part of the village's summer atmosphere. Djupdalsvallens Våffelstuga is a waffle hut and mountain restaurant on a summer pasture near Mittåkläppen, open during the summer season; the road there begins in Bruksvallarna. Bruksvallarnas Rökeri / Fjälldelikatessen is a farm shop offering its own and other quality products. In an old farmstead renovated by the Bruksvallarnas byalagsförening, Lena and Zenita run a mountain café in summer. Homemade rolls, coffee and homemade tunnbröd are sold there.
Bruksvallarna as a starting point for planning your trip
Families with different interests can enjoy a varied stay: while cross-country skiing, ski touring or the Bruksvallsloppet may take centre stage on one day, a historic trail, a hike or regional specialities can set the pace on another. In summer, Bruksvallarna also provides a starting point for cycling tours towards Funäsdalen. Grayling, Arctic char and trout are found around the village. Therefore, choose your accommodation primarily according to which of these activities you want to shape your stay and how much room you would like to leave for spontaneous discoveries.
