Culture and history

Rótova presents the history of raisin cultivation in particularly tangible form: the Centre d’Interpretació de la Cultura de la Pansa is housed in the riurau del Roig. It presents raisin cultivation as part of the local heritage, history and economy, and provides information about the processing and production of raisins.

The Vil·la Romana de la Sort features a 336 m² mural by mural painter and restorer Toni Espinar. A prior reservation by telephone or email is required to visit the Vil·la Romana de la Sort.

Several buildings lead through different historical periods: the Acueducto del Monasterio de San Jerónimo dates from the 16th century and was built in the Gothic-Mudejar style. The Palacio de los Condes de Rótova dates from the 17th century, while the Iglesia Parroquial San Bartolomé dates from the 18th century.

The town’s streets and houses also contain significant examples of Valencian vernacular architecture. Ròtova also has a riu-rau, a drying structure for drying raisins. As part of the Ruta de los Monasterios, Ròtova is recommended as one of the towns to visit. Those wishing to compare historical periods can classify the buildings by their centuries and consider the architecture as a focus in its own right alongside raisin-growing culture.

Nature and trails

The PR-CV 100 circular route connects the les Galeries and dels Llibrells springs with several viewpoints and passes through the Cova de les Rates y Casa dels Garcies flora micro-reserve. The springs, viewpoints and micro-reserve represent different trail themes alongside one another; you can classify the route according to your preferred focus on natural features or landscape views.

Festivals and cuisine

The Porrat de Sant Macià is a festival of local tourist interest and takes place on the last Sunday in February. It combines traditional confectionery stalls and fairground rides with cultural and festive activities.

Local cuisine includes Coques de dacsa, which are prepared with cornflour and are among Ròtova’s typical dishes. Pastissets d’aire, as well as confectionery made with almonds and sweet potatoes, are among Ròtova’s typical baked goods. Ròtova has three wood-fired ovens. Dishes, baked goods and oven equipment therefore form three distinct culinary themes for personal travel planning.
