Puçol between the Beach, History and Huerta

Puçol offers a stretch of coastline at Playa de Puçol extending for more than 2 kilometres. In recent years, it has received the Blue Flag, Q for Tourist Quality and Qualitur seal awards. Approximately 100 metres off Playa de Puçol, there are rocky seabeds underwater that are of interest to divers. Marjal dels Moros is one of the most important areas for waterfowl in the province of Valencia.

Culture and History

Construction of the Iglesia de los Santos Juanes began in 1587. The Muralla del jardín botánico was built next to the Iglesia de los Santos Juanes in 1607. Spain’s first university botanical garden was located inside the Muralla del jardín botánico. The Iglesia de los Santos Juanes is currently considered the most representative monument in Puçol.

La Torreta was built in the 14th century and is considered the oldest house in the municipality of Puçol. Today, La Torreta is a private residence and cannot be visited inside. El Molí de Vent is one of the few surviving mill structures with an Arab-style design in the Comunitat Valenciana. It stands on a hill and offers views over Puçol and the sea. The Iglesia de Santa Marta was built in 1964 by the local parishioners themselves. Les Dansaes are traditional street dances that are widespread in the Valencian region and often accompany festive or cultural events.

Trails and Getting There

The Vía Augusta is fully signposted along its route through Puçol. The Ruta del Cid passes through the municipality of Puçol. The GR-10 long-distance trail begins in Puçol in the La Costera natural area. The Via Verde is a 15-kilometre-long, peaceful route through the Huerta between Valencia and Puçol. The Vereda Mangraners is 4 metres wide and serves as an agricultural route, cycle path and footpath.
