La Font D'en Carròs: Church Art, Forest Trails and Festivals

The parish church of Sant Antoni Màrtir was built in 1329 on the site of an earlier mosque. It contains the tombs of Francesc Carròs I and Francesc Carròs II, as well as an altarpiece of the Adoration of the Magi attributed to Espinosa.

Culture

The Muralles del Rafalí are recognised as a Bé d’Interés Cultural (BIC); around 100 metres of the wall dating from the 14th century remain, along with the remains of two towers. The former home of lexicographer Francesc Ferrer Pastor houses the Museu Casa de la Paraula, which presents his life, work and contribution to the Valencian language.

The PR-CV 347 route, which runs entirely through woodland, begins at the cemetery park, climbs to the summit of Covatelles and then returns to the starting point. The summit offers panoramic views over the Mediterranean coast from Cullera to Cap de Sant Antoni and Montgó, as well as inland towards the Safor, Benicadell, Mondúber and Serra Grossa.

La Sima Blanca – Cova del Mosquit is a tectonic cave with a 20-metre-deep shaft, several chambers and an underground aquifer; it is accessible only to caving experts. Muntanya del Rabat is a 167-metre-high summit where the remains of an Iberian settlement have been found.

Parc de la Plana has 15,000 m² of prepared recreational space with tables, benches, children's play equipment, a zip line, a skate park, a pétanque court and a barbecue area.

Festivals

The Moros i Cristians festival in La Font d'en Carròs currently comprises six comparsas, three Moorish and three Christian groups, and takes place on the weekend before the patron-saint festivities. Every year on 29 September, a pilgrimage leads from La Font d'en Carròs to the Ermita Sant Miquel, where a mass and a communal breakfast follow.

The roots of the Sant Antoni del Porquet festival probably date back to the 16th century. It takes place every year on the weekend after 17 January around the Ermita de Sant Antoni. The festival includes a medieval market where traditional activities such as pottery, esparto processing, glassmaking and goldsmithing are demonstrated.
