Albuixech: Huerta, History and Astronomy

Albuixech can be explored through the Huerta, its local history and public astronomy. The Huerta of Albuixech features a variety of crops and agricultural activities, while also having agricultural, technical, historical, economic and social significance. History and Culture

The historical origins of Albuixech include a Muslim alquería called Abu Xech, whose name is interpreted as “Alquería of the Forest”. After the conquest by James I, Albuixech was handed over to the Bishop of Valencia, passed through various lordships and was fully incorporated into the Crown in the 16th century. The development of the town thus encompasses its origins as a Muslim alquería, the transfer after the conquest, changing lordships and its later incorporation into the Crown.

The Iglesia Parroquial de Nuestra Señora de Albuixech is classified as a Bien de Relevancia Local (BRL), meaning an asset of local cultural significance. The Ermita del Santísimo Cristo de la Misericordia is one of the sights to visit in Albuixech. The Juliol Musical event series in Albuixech had reached six editions by June 2026.

Astronomy

The Parque Astronómico de Albuixech offers guided tours explaining the individual modules of the municipal astronomy park. The astronomical observatory of Albuixech offers free public astronomy activities every month. It is located in the Casa de Cultura in the southwest of the town. The facilities of Astro Albuixech open once a month for public observations, with attendants answering questions. The astronomy programme therefore includes guided tours, free monthly activities and supervised public observations as separate components.

Getting There

Albuixech has a stop within the town on Renfe’s C6 Valencia–Barcelona line. The V-21 connects Albuixech with the city of Valencia and the town of Sagunto. For getting there, a rail connection and a road connection are therefore clearly named reference points alongside one another.
