Rugat features traditional streets set against the backdrop of the Sierra de Benicadell. You can explore the town through three clearly distinguishable themes: nature destinations with short routes, longer hiking connections, and evidence of church and festive traditions. The themes do not have to follow a fixed order; you can consider route, type of stay and cultural interests independently of one another.

Nature and Trails

The L’Horta recreation area is located near Rugat, about five minutes from the town centre, and has barbecue areas and play areas.

Parque de la Costereta is another park near the municipality of Rugat.

The Área Recreativa Les Fonts is about a fifteen-minute walk from Rugat. The green, cool surroundings offer children’s play facilities; you can also hear the sound of water there.

Culture and Tradition

The parish church of Virgen de Gràcia in Rugat is neoclassical and dates from the early 19th century.

The parish church of Virgen de Gràcia houses a 16th-century image of Christ. Its interior includes an altarpiece consisting of twelve panels, attributed to Ribera.

Rugat’s patron saints’ fiestas honour the patron saint Sant Bernat as well as the Divina Aurora, the Purísima and Cristo de los Prodigios.

They begin on the last Thursday in July and end on the Sunday of the same week.

Routes

The Jaume I Route “La senda morisca” to Castell de Rugat passes through Rugat and Aielo. It is 7.7 km long and takes approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes.
