Culture

The Ayuntamiento de Olocau del Rey is a listed building constructed in the 16th century in the Gothic-Aragonese architectural style. The Castillo de Olcaf stands on a hilltop at an altitude of almost 1,200 metres. Its ruins are protected as a Bien de Interés Cultural and can be visited.

The Gothic oven of Olocau del Rey is considered the oldest in the Valencian Community. The Ermita de Nuestra Señora de la Naranja dates from the 13th century, stands on a hilltop and offers expansive views. The medieval depiction of the Virgen de la Naranja in Olocau del Rey was restored by the Instituto Valenciano de Conservación y Restauración de Bienes Culturales.

The Iglesia de Nuestra Señora del Pópulo houses a Romanesque carving of the Virgen de la Naranja. The Lonja de la lana is one of Olocau del Rey’s valuable historic buildings. The Ermita de San Blas is also one of the recommended sights to visit in Olocau del Rey.

The Cárcel de Olocau del Rey dates from the 16th century and provides insights into the medieval imprisonment and torture of prisoners. The Horno de Olocau del Rey houses a museographic exhibition. The Fuente antigua dates from the 15th century, as does the Casa-Palacio del Marqués de la Figuera.

Nature and Trails

The Anillo de Morella road cycling route is approximately 104 kilometres long, is recommended over two days and has a medium level of difficulty. The Olocau del Rey–la Todolella stage is 11.2 kilometres long and is designated as natural and architectural heritage. From the vehicle parking area, a footpath leads up to the hilltop in approximately 15 minutes.
