Herbeset lies at the entrance to Tinença de Benifassà Nature Park in a mountainous natural landscape. Its location combines a small village with a landscape where several hiking trails offer different types of routes and impressions.

Nature and Hiking

The PR-CV 215 passes through pine forests, gorges and sections with dry-stone walls before reaching the entrance to Herbeset. Another route is the PR-CV 373 Pereroles – Herbeset, a 7 km-long linear hiking trail with an estimated duration of 2 hours and 22 minutes.

The PR-CV 373 leads through a pine forest to the Barranc d’Herbeset, then to the path by the cemetery and viewpoints overlooking Herbeset. As another connection, the GR 331 Els Ports – Camí de Conquesta includes Herbeset in a 166 km-long circular hiking route divided into 15 stages.

On the ninth stage, the route leads from Morella to Herbeset over 12.2 km; the estimated walking time is 3 hours and 3 minutes.

The route descriptions offer several levels of comparison. A circular hiking route, an individual stage and a linear route are not planned according to the same pattern. You can first consider the route type and then the length and walking time. It is also possible to pay attention to whether the route itself or individual named points are the focus. The planning remains based on the specific details and does not treat the different routes as a single format. For classification purposes, the number of kilometres alone is therefore not decisive. A linear route describes a start and an end, a stage describes a section within the GR 331, while the circular hiking route provides the larger context. Village Character

Herbeset has no permanent residents; some houses have been restored as summer residences. Herbeset has two rural tourism houses: Casa de la Mestra I and Casa de la Mestra II.

Herbeset is considered the oldest hamlet in the municipality of Morella. From the access road, a few closely clustered houses can be seen; the Church of San Miguel stands at their highest point.

The San Isidro festival in Herbeset is part of Morella’s Rollos and Primas cycle. Traditional pastries are at the centre of the celebration; the Cofradía de Herbeset distributes traditional Rollos.
