Espadilla: History, Hiking Trails and Nature
Espadilla combines named evidence of the past with paths through different landscape features. The traditional historic center of Espadilla (Núcleo Histórico Tradicional de Espadilla) has Islamic origins. The parish church Iglesia Parroquial de San Juan Bautista dates from the 18th century. The Castillo de Espadilla is a ruined fortress; its walls, cistern and remains of a tower can still be seen.

Culture and History
The Castillo de Espadilla is located a little more than one kilometer from the town center and can be reached via a signposted path. The Casa Abadía is a 17th-century building and currently houses the town hall.
At Calvario, there are stations featuring various depictions of Semana Santa. The Ermita de San Roque can be reached via a short, picturesque walking path. The information on shorter and longer paths can be considered separately from the buildings and depictions, allowing you to assign different priorities to cultural sightseeing and walking routes.
Landscape and Water
Peña Saganta reaches an altitude of 723 meters. A tributary of the Río Mijares crosses the municipality of Espadilla and forms a natural pool that is used for swimming in summer. The Sastre, Piqueta and Silvia springs are considered springs with mineral-medicinal waters. The botanical garden of Espadilla includes a recreational area.
Altitude, water, springs and the recreational area of the botanical garden can be considered as separate nature topics alongside the historic sites. This creates different focuses for planning without reducing the landscape to just one activity.
Hiking Trails and Historical Traces
The PR-CV 314 circular hiking trail begins at C/ Montico 12 in Espadilla and is 9.00 km long. It runs along the old mule track between Espadilla and Ayódar or through the Barranco de la Piqueta below the medieval castle.
The PR-CV 386 Camino a la Cueva Negra is an 11.90 km route with Espadilla as its reference municipality. The area around Espadilla has hiking trails as well as springs, old livestock pens, Masías and lime kilns.
A route from Espadilla toward Cueva Negra passes between abandoned Masías and trenches from the Spanish Civil War.
The different route lengths help compare hiking options by scope. The route layout and historical traces can also be given separate weight when planning.
