Hiking
The Senda de Colmenarejo a Valdemorillo (R14) is a linear route from Colmenarejo to Valdemorillo; it is 16.2 kilometres long and classified as a low-difficulty hiking route. Along its course, it crosses the Aulencia River next to the ruins of a grain mill.
The Senda de Valdemorillo a Villanueva de la Cañada (R19) starts in Valdemorillo and is a 9.7-kilometre-long, linear route with a low level of difficulty. Sights along the route include the Fortín de la Guerra Civil.
The two linear routes can be compared based on their starting points, length and respective route features.
Culture
The parish church of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción was built between the late 15th century and the first third of the 16th century and completed at the end of the 16th century. It is entirely covered by differently designed star-ribbed vaults; their ribs and arches rest on pillars attached to the walls and articulated with mouldings. As a monument, the church is protected as a Bien de Interés Cultural and is an example of Late Gothic Castilian architecture.
The Museo Eduardo Barreiros has an 800-square-metre exhibition area with a permanent collection and an extensive documentary archive. It is designed as an interactive museum and displays cars, trucks and tractors, as well as a cutaway EB6 diesel engine for demonstration purposes.
Visits to CUMVAL take place by prior appointment.
The surviving components of the former factory complex in Valdemorillo are specially protected as significant historic ceramic industrial heritage of the region.
Nature
Valdemorillo is one of the 19 municipalities that form part of the protected Parque Regional del Curso Medio del río Guadarrama y su entorno.
The Senda de las Ánimas is a six-kilometre-long circular route with a low level of difficulty that runs entirely within Valdemorillo. It passes through pine forests, holm oak groves and riverside woodlands within the ZEPA 56 Special Protection Area for Birds.
The Embalse de Valmayor reservoir is located in the vicinity of Valdemorillo. Water sports such as sailing and fishing are practised there; the area includes shoreline ecosystems, holm oak groves and flooded zones.
The circular route, linear trails and reservoir thus represent different ways of exploring the landscape.
Festivals
El Rondón is an old tradition revived each year through competitions during the patron-saint festivities.
During the Romería de la Virgen de la Esperanza, the statue of the Virgin is carried from the parish church to the Ermita de Valmayor. The popular festival includes a picnic and the El Rondón dance.
The patron-saint festivities last one week and include, among other events, a bullfighting event and bull running.
