It is subject to several overlapping protection designations: the LIC/ZEC Cuenca del río Lozoya y Sierra Norte, the peripheral protection zone of the Sierra de Guadarrama National Park and the management plan for the natural resources of the Sierra de Guadarrama.

Culture and History

The Puente del Congosto is a medieval bridge in Lozoya with a single span and a semicircular arch. It stands directly on the rock and was built from unworked stones and masonry. The parish church of El Salvador in Lozoya dates from the 16th century and features Gothic and Plateresque elements, including a ribbed vault and a Plateresque portal.

The Palacete Suárez de la Concha, also known as the Antiguo Convento, was originally built in the 16th century and converted into a convent in the 19th century. The Ermita de Nuestra Señora de La Fuensanta was originally built in the 18th century, destroyed during the Spanish Civil War and subsequently rebuilt by the Dirección General de Regiones Devastadas. Lozoya also has a recently restored fountain with four spouts and a large rectangular stone basin, dating from 1791.
