Arroyomolinos – Holiday Apartments, Mills and the Senda Mágica

Arroyomolinos combines path and storytelling along the Senda Mágica: fairies, gnomes, trolls and other mythical creatures accompany visitors along the route in a magical story that raises awareness of environmental protection. The 1.5-kilometre-long path runs along the Waldkiesel and is very easy to walk, even for children and pushchairs.

Culture and History

The Torreón de Arroyomolinos is a building in the Gothic Mudejar style. Since 22 April 1949, it has been protected as an Asset of Cultural Interest in the category of castle. The Torreón was restored in 2003; today, it belongs to the network of archaeological sites open to visitors in the Autonomous Community of Madrid.

The Cordel de Arroyomolinos also contains archaeological remains of medieval mills in the Mudejar style. Of the five historic hydraulic mills, only remains survive in Arroyomolinos: four are located on the northern bank of the Torreón, and one to the south, together with its original weir.

The Molino Doble, also known as Molino del Río, is a hydraulic mill of the double-bucket mill type with an aqueduct, and has two water basins and two millstones. The Ruta de los Molinos del río Guadarrama links five former grain mills in Arroyomolinos: Molino del Caño, Molino de las Isabelas, Molino Perdido, Molino Doble and Molino Valdefuentes.

Festivals and Traditions

The Corpus Christi celebration, El Corpus Christi, is the most important festival in Arroyomolinos. The festivities include events that are part of the municipality’s traditions.
