Logroño: Rioja culture, old town and holiday apartments

Wine and history

The Calado de San Gregorio is a historic 17th-century wine-making space used for temporary exhibitions and events related to wine. At the same time, it is the starting point of the “El Camino del Vino” exhibition. It explores the relationship between the Way of Saint James, wine and their significance for the history of Logroño.

The Centro de la Cultura del Rioja is a municipal institution dedicated to the worldwide dissemination and promotion of Rioja wine culture. At the Espacio Lagares, the wine of Logroño’s residents was produced between the 16th and 19th centuries. Calle Laurel offers pinchos, tapas and portions with Rioja wines.

Culture in the city centre

In the heart of Logroño’s old town, on Plaza del Mercado, stands the Concatedral de Santa María de La Redonda. It was elevated to the status of co-cathedral in 1959. Admission is free outside of services, provided that the church is open.

The Cubo del Revellín was built between 1522 and 1524. The Murallas del Revellín preserve surviving remains of Logroño’s former fortifications.

Museums and architectural history

The Museo de La Rioja is housed in an 18th-century Baroque building known as the Palacio de Espartero. Its collections include paintings, sculptures, ethnographic pieces, as well as materials and objects from archaeological sites. The museum presents the history of the region from the earliest Palaeolithic finds to contemporary objects and works of art.

The Casa de las Ciencias is located in the former slaughterhouse, built by Luis Barrón in 1910.
