Culture and Everyday Life

The Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de las Eras features Rococo architecture, is laid out in the shape of a Latin cross and has a three-aisled nave divided into three bays. Its tower and belfry were built in 1727 under the direction of Juan de Allende; the main altarpiece by Manuel del Camino was completed in 1763.

The Museo Etnográfico presents preserved objects that reflect the traditions, everyday life, customs and practices of El Rasillo de Cameros. The Museo de la Miel explains honey production, the life of bees, their importance to the ecosystem, as well as the benefits and traditional production of products made from honey.

The Ermita de San Mamés is a masonry-built chapel with a three-bay nave and a smaller chancel. Next to the Ermita de San Mamés there is an outdoor area with benches and rest areas, as well as panoramic views. The historic washhouse of El Rasillo de Cameros preserves the memory of communal clothes washing as part of former local everyday life.

Water and Activity

The Senda de El Rasillo is a paved path that leads downhill from the town of El Rasillo de Cameros to the González-Lacasa Reservoir and runs along the shore by the Club Náutico El Rasillo.

At the González-Lacasa Reservoir, the Club Náutico El Rasillo offers pedal boating, canoeing, stand-up paddleboarding, windsurfing and light sailing. It has designated bathing areas, its own restaurant and its own cafeteria; access to the club is free.

The GR-93 route, “Sierras de La Rioja”, passes through El Rasillo de Cameros on the Ortigosa de Cameros–Anguiano stage. Orienteering with a map and compass is also offered there on courses with marked control points.

The urban escape room “La Bruja de Achondite” uses an app in which teams solve puzzles and challenges and follow clues distributed throughout El Rasillo de Cameros. The El Rasillo pump track is a free, publicly accessible cycling facility that can be used all year round.

Mushroom gathering is considered an activity in El Rasillo de Cameros in spring and autumn; a permit is required, and it is not permitted every day.

Nature and Landscape

The Área recreativa de San Antolino recreation area is located near the González-Lacasa Reservoir, on the access road to the Club Náutico.

The area includes Pyrenean oak woodland and stands of Scots pine, and provides a habitat for roe deer, squirrels, great spotted woodpeckers, nuthatches and fire-bellied toads.

The Olmo de El Rasillo is a more than 400-year-old wych elm (Ulmus glabra), listed as a Singular Tree of La Rioja under number 61 and protected under Law 2/1995.

The Sierra around El Rasillo de Cameros is mainly covered by holm oak, oak and beech forests. It is also home to Scots pine, yew, juniper, Portuguese oak and holly, as well as shrubs and mountain plants such as broom, gentian and daffodil.
