Discover Ribaseca: History, Church and Landscape

Ribaseca is documented as early as 905 under the historical form “Ripa Sicca”. The historically outstanding building in the village is the church dedicated to the Apostle Saint James. Ribaseca’s Santiago Church was the mother church of the church in Santovenia. In 1017, Fredenando and Domna María, who lived in Ripasica, donated their property to the Santiago de León Monastery. The documented history of the village therefore extends from an early form of its name to a specifically dated transfer of property.
