Culture and History

The Iglesia de Santa Águeda in Sotillo de la Ribera was begun in the 17th century and completed in the 18th century. The Palacio de los Serrano in Sotillo de la Ribera is an 18th-century neoclassical building that was protected by the Junta de Castilla y León as a Bien de Interés Cultural in the „Monument“ category; today it serves as rural accommodation.

Festivals and Customs

The celebrations of Santa Águeda are held on 5 February in honour of the municipality’s patron saint, with a procession, a dance by the Quintos and verbenas. Semana Santa in Sotillo de la Ribera includes processions on Maundy Thursday and Good Friday, as well as a ruralised Miserere sung by a group of brotherhood members.

On the first Sunday in September, the celebrations of Ntra. Sra. La Virgen de los Prados are held; they include a traditional Romería from the parish church to the Ermita de Ntra. de los Prados, covering slightly more than one kilometre. Landscape and Trails

The initial landscape of the Ruta de las Ermitas includes poplar groves near the Arroyo de Sotillo stream, small orchards, vineyards and cereal fields. The Ruta de las Ermitas begins at the Ermita de Santa Ana, located on a bend in the BU-130 between La Horra and Cabañes de Esgueva.

In the Vallejondo valley, Amancio created a small „Ermita“ from the rocks there in 1997; inside, a figure of the Good Shepherd is suggested.

Wine Tourism

The seventh edition of the Feria „Sotillo, el Vino y Yo“ was scheduled for 6 and 7 June as a wine-tourism event involving 12 wineries from the Denominación de Origen Ribera del Duero and an expected attendance of around 2,000 visitors.
