Culture
Lodoso is home to the Church of San Cristóbal, a two-nave Renaissance building with stone vaults and Romanesque remains. Its Renaissance portal dates from 1543 and features fluted columns, a frieze and a stone niche containing a statue of Saint Christopher. Inside the church are restored 16th-century frescoes depicting scenes from the Passion of Christ.
Directly beside the church is the “El Concejo” Ethnographic Museum, housed in the restored former Casa del Concejo. The museum displays traditional household objects that reflect the way of life of the inhabitants of the Úrbel basin over the past centuries. It also contains audiovisual materials about astronomical observations.
Lodoso also has traces of its built heritage, including a recently restored medieval bridge. Northwest of Lodoso lies the 16th-century Ermita de Santa Marina; it features some Romanesque remains and stands beside a three-spout fountain and a livestock trough.
Near Lodoso, interests can be weighted differently: architectural details can be found at the church, bridge and ermita, landscape features appear in the hollow, stream and riverside vegetation, while astronomical themes are represented at the museum and the Centro Astronómico. These focal points can be planned separately as part of your own daily itinerary.
Landscape
Lodoso lies in a flat hollow in the Páramos, formed by a stream that is a tributary of the Úrbel. The Arroyo del Vallejo contributes to the greenery of the surrounding páramo landscape with its riverside vegetation.
When booking a holiday apartment in Lodoso, travel dates, room category and cancellation conditions can reflect the different requirements of your own trip.
