Hontoria de Valdearados – Trails, Culture and Landscape

Hontoria de Valdearados is the starting point of the Sendero del Belosillo PRC-BU 164.

Culture

The Palacio del Obispo is a 16th-century building and is now used as the town hall of Hontoria de Valdearados. The Museo Etnográfico de Hontoria de Valdearados is housed in a room on the ground floor of this Palacio del Obispo.

The Iglesia de San Esteban Protomártir has a basilica plan with three naves. Its main altar features a Calvary group from the 16th century consisting of three polychrome wooden figures.

The parish church of Hontoria de Valdearados preserves six capitals set into the western wall; they are dated to the second half of the 12th century.

Puente Canto is a stone bridge with two arches over the Río Aranzuelo.

A celebration is held at the Ermita de la Virgen de la Serna on 8 September.

Trails

The Sendero del Belosillo PRC-BU 164 is 21.2 kilometres long. Along its route, the trail follows the Cañada Real Segoviana, which was part of the historic livestock trail network of the Mesta.

The Sendero del Belosillo leads to the Ermita de la Virgen de la Serna, which was built in the 18th century and restored in 1995.

The trail length and the historical connections can be considered separate focal points when planning individually. Those who wish to combine different interests can weigh the route, buildings and museum independently.

There, the Cañada Real Segoviana is a 75-metre-wide natural corridor, mostly covered by large juniper trees and holm oaks.

The themes of hiking, architecture, museums and landscape can be considered separately, without this having to result in a fixed programme. The selection can be based on the desired mix of culture, trails and landscape. This leaves open whether the stay should be shaped more by historical sites, the hiking trail or the surrounding landscapes.
