Nature and water

La Laguna de la Nava lies on the northern slope of Cerro del Diablo in a glacial cirque formed by the Cuerda de Riscos Altos and the Campanario barrier.

The lagoon is of glacial origin and was dammed by a broad wall built by the local residents in the mid-20th century. The dam at La Laguna de la Nava raises the lagoon's water level by several metres and retains water for irrigating the orchards.

Townscape and landscape details

A large irrigation canal carries water through Nava del Barco to the meadows, orchards and gardens. The orchards of Nava del Barco produce excellent Reineta apples.

Puente de la Nava is a bridge over the gorge. Near the “era de los moros”, large rocks with fanciful shapes stand out, inviting hikers to observe them and let their imaginations wander. La Pera is a granite rock in the shape of a pear, located in the children's playground.

Culture

The Iglesia de Nuestra Señora del Rosario is described as a 16th-century building. Inside the church are carvings of the Virgen del Rosario and a depiction of faith. The church's bell gable is considered typical of the foothills of the Sierra de Gredos. Nava del Barco preserves traditional granite-built houses with wooden gates and small windows.

For on-site observation, the church interior, bell gable and traditional houses thus stand alongside one another as distinct architectural motifs.
