El Tiemblo: Holiday Apartments Among Chestnut Trees and Culture

Culture and History

Different periods stand side by side in the town's cultural heritage. The tower of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción dates from the 15th century. The Ermita de San Antonio is a Baroque chapel; its nave and façade were completed in 1828 after work began in 1781. In the old town of El Tiemblo, the Hornos de las Tinajas were built in response to the high demand for tinajas, large storage vessels. The tinajas associated with the Hornos de las Tinajas were exported mainly to Toledo and Ciudad Real. In the vicinity of El Tiemblo, the Pozo de la Nieve is a stone building that was used to store snow and preserve it for use during warmer periods.

Nature and Trails

The second stage of the Ruta Teresiana runs for 18 km between El Tiemblo and Cebreros. The optional variant of this stage leads from El Tiemblo to the Toros de Guisando and back to El Tiemblo. Festivals and Traditions

The Fiestas San Antonio, held in honour of Saint Anthony of Padua, the patron saint of the municipality, take place from 12 to 15 June and include bullfights with traditional “desencajonamientos”, as well as cultural, folkloric and sporting events and festivities at night. The celebrations on 12, 13 and 14 September were originally associated with the buying and selling of livestock and are now linked to the Feria Medieval. A popular pilgrimage takes place on Easter Monday; it was formerly held at Cerro de Guisando and was moved to the San Gregorio site several years ago.
