Xunqueira de Ambía: Collegiate Church, Hiking Trails and Thermal Baths

The Colegiata de Santa María de Xunqueira de Ambía is designated as a cultural asset of special cultural interest. The Museo da Colexiata de Xunqueira de Ambía is located at the site of the Colexiata de Xunqueira de Ambía. The museum is open to the public and municipally run. It is also connected to the Vía da Prata. Santa María a Real houses a Hispanic Churrigueresque organ dating from 1759. The organ is currently in use. The high altar is a Renaissance work. It displays Flemish influences and dates from the first decades of the 16th century.

Visiting

The Oficina de Turismo is open on Saturdays and Sundays from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. For €1 per person, it provides access to the Colegiata de Santa María a Real and its cloister. The weekend opening hours of the Oficina de Turismo specify a fixed time window for access to the collegiate church and cloister. Organ and early music concerts take place every year during the summer months in Xunqueira de Ambía. The Peto de Ánimas de Salgueiros is an item of ethnographic cultural heritage in Salgueiros on the Vía da Prata. The Capela da Virxe do Camiño in A Pousa is a chapel located on the Vía da Prata.

Experiences

Ecoespazo O Rexo includes an installation by Agustín Ibarrola. The installation combines painting and sculpture. It is integrated into the trees and rocks of the surrounding area. Andaina Asaltamontes is a traditional event in Xunqueira de Ambía. It promotes outdoor sport and community life. Its eighth edition took place on Sunday, 9 August 2026.

Water

The natural pools of Os Pelamios are between 30 cm and slightly more than 1 m deep. The Bañiño spring emerges with a water temperature of 18°C on the banks of the Arnoia River. Porteiro is a thermal bath in a healthy and relaxing setting, with warm water at 12°C.
