Beariz: Hiking, Waterfalls and Culture
In the municipality of Beariz, the Ruta de Xirazga passes through villages with traditional architecture. This architecture includes old houses, hórreos, chapels, wayside crosses, mills, ovens and fountains.
Hiking and Trails
In the municipality of Beariz, the Ruta de Garfián can be completed on foot, by mountain bike or by quad bike. The route circles Monte Ceo da Bouza. It then leads downhill through the Barcia recreational area.
The Ruta de Magros is a hiking route around the slopes of Monte Marcofán. It is approximately 14 kilometres long. Along the route, there are open areas with panoramic views of Magros.
The Ruta de Xirazga is 16.5 kilometres long and has a low level of technical difficulty.
Water and Landscape
In the surroundings of Beáriz, Fervenza de Magros is located on the Rego de Touza, a small tributary of the Río Doade. The Río Doade flows into the Río Avia.
A footpath leads from a rocky outcrop to the foot of Fervenza de Magros. The descent is considered difficult, but manageable for experienced mountain hikers.
From the road between Beariz and O Carballiño, Fervenza de Magros can be glimpsed through the vegetation after crossing the river bridge.
Fervenza da Caldeira can be reached via the OU-212 road, the river bathing area and a footpath leading to the bridge.
Culture and History
In the surroundings of Beáriz, Castro de Magros lies approximately 700 to 800 metres from the village of Magros. It can be accessed via mountain paths, along the Pozo Mineiro stream or by a forest track.
From its elevated position, Castro de Magros offers views of Magros, Liñares, A Bouza, Coto de Marcofán, Penas das Ferreiras, Alto da Vixía and Picos Brancos.
Castro de Magros contains traces of a defensive wall. Its residential area features circular house floor plans.
Capilla de San Bartolomé is located in the upper part of the village of A Bouza. The year 1803 is inscribed on its façade; inside, there is a seated Gothic Madonna and Child.
In the surroundings of Beáriz, Botica de Doade preserves a room that illustrates the work of the healthcare system in Galicia in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Botica de Doade also offers a virtual 3D tour with video explanations.
In the surroundings of Beáriz, the patron saint's festivities of the parish of Santa María de Beariz are celebrated on 15 August.
