Hiking Trails

The Ruta Guntumil-Portela de Pitôes-Requias hiking route is 11 kilometres long, takes approximately three hours and has a moderate to high level of difficulty. Along its course, the route first leads to Portugal and then descends to Requiás; it offers views of the peaks of Fontefría.

The approximate duration of three hours describes the time frame for this route, while the moderate to high level of difficulty indicates its stated demands. Portugal and Requiás also designate the two directions of the route described.

A 7-kilometre ecological hiking trail connects Xermade and Requiás. The Rota de Padín is a 12-kilometre circular route starting and ending in Guntumil. Its course leads via Padín, the Refuxio do Pisco, Portela de Pitôes and Requiás, returning to Guntumil.

For the Rota de Padín, Guntumil as the starting and finishing point, together with the stations mentioned, mark the complete course of the circular route. By contrast, the ecological hiking trail names Xermade and Requiás as the two places it connects.

Nature and Views

The Foxo do Lobo do Salas is located in the Veiga de Requiás within the Baixa Limia-Serra de Xurés Nature Park. As part of the restoration work at the Foxo do Lobo do Salas, a 10-metre-long educational section of the restored perimeter wall was planned.

From the viewpoint, there are sweeping views across the comarca of A Baixa Limia. The Salas Reservoir lies in the foreground, while the Serra do Xurés rises to the left. The Fervenza da Fecha waterfall is located on the Regato de Portela on the descent to Requiás.

The view therefore encompasses both the wider vista across A Baixa Limia and the immediately named landscape features, namely the Salas Reservoir and the Serra do Xurés. The waterfall, on the other hand, is assigned to a specific section along the Regato de Portela.

Mountain Biking and Trails

The Serra do Xurés BTT centre includes mountain-bike trails that pass through Requiás, among other places. After visiting Requiás, an asphalt track leads to Guntumil.

On the descent to Requiás, the path runs alongside the Regato de Portela. At that time, old mills could be seen there, which were still in operation.

Culture in Requiás

The festival of the Virxe do Castro takes place on 15 August and includes the ascent and descent between the parish church and the sanctuary.

The Forno comunal de Requiás is a restored communal oven and is one of the points of interest to visit in Requiás. The Igrexa de Santiago de Requias has an ornate façade with pilasters, cornices, pinnacles and baquetones, as well as a stepped bell gable.

At the festival of the Virxe do Castro, the ascent and descent between the parish church and the sanctuary form part of the described itinerary. At the Igrexa de Santiago de Requias, the stated façade elements and the stepped bell gable shape the building's exterior appearance.
