Tamallancos: Pazos, Hórreos and Routes to Cea

The Pazo de Tamallancos is a building made of granite ashlar blocks, with a portal bearing a carved coat of arms. On its exterior are two external chimneys with gutters and gargoyles.

The Pazo includes two Hórreos. Tamallancos has numerous traditional Hórreos, especially at the Pazo; they date from the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

The Casa grande de dona Dora is located in Tamallancos village square. The building has a large solaina, a balcony with a grille, and a distinctive stone chimney, and is made of granite ashlar blocks.

The Casa grande do Brillante is located near Tamallancos village square. It is built of granite ashlar blocks, fully restored, and retains its original layout.

The Cruceiro de Tamallancos stands beside the fountain and has a stone resting table dating from the 19th century.

The granite ashlar blocks are thus repeated in several buildings in the locality, while the solaina, balcony, chimney, portal, and carved coat of arms each mark distinct architectural details. The Hórreos also do not form a single, uniform object, but appear at the Pazo and at other locations in Tamallancos.

Casa grande de dona Dora and the nearby Casa grande do Brillante are located at the village square within the same local context. Their stated features nevertheless remain distinct: here, the solaina, grille balcony, and stone chimney are the focus, while there, the restoration and original layout take centre stage.

Surroundings

The Manuel Márquez Museum. Galería de Arte and the Museo Arqueolóxico are located in the surroundings of Tamallancos. The Museo Arqueológico Provincial and the historic site of Ponte Vella are also located there.

Monte San Trocao is located in the surroundings of Tamallancos. Monte da Madalena is located in the wider regional area around Tamallancos.

The Botánico de Montealegre Garden is located in the surroundings of Tamallancos. The Dragonenos Park is located in the same area.

The area mentioned therefore includes museums, a historic site, mountains, a botanical garden, and a park. The names range from the Museo Manuel Márquez. Galería de Arte to Ponte Vella, and from Monte San Trocao to Dragonenos Park.

For geographical classification, the details are deliberately kept distinct: Monte San Trocao, the museums, Ponte Vella, the Botánico de Montealegre Garden, and Dragonenos Park are located in the surroundings; Monte da Madalena is assigned to the wider regional area.

Routes

From Ourense, the “A Cea por Cudeiro” route leads via Soutelo, Cudeiro, Sarterigós, and Tamallancos, continuing through Bouzas, Sobreira, Faramontaos, Viduedo, and Casas Novas to Cea.

An 11-kilometre circular route begins at the Pazo de Vilamarín. Its course also passes the Pazo de Tamallancos and the Pazo de Sobreira.

The “A Cea por Cudeiro” route thus names a sequence of places between Ourense and Cea, with Tamallancos appearing as one of the explicitly named points. The circular route has a different starting point at the Pazo de Vilamarín and, in addition to Tamallancos, mentions the Pazo de Sobreira.

The sequence of places on the longer route includes Soutelo, Cudeiro, Sarterigós, Tamallancos, Bouzas, Sobreira, Faramontaos, Viduedo, and Casas Novas. The circular route is given as 11 kilometres and passes three named Pazo locations: Vilamarín as the starting point, and Tamallancos and Sobreira along the route.
