Discover Doade: Vineyards along the Sil and viewpoints

Doade combines the wine landscape along the Sil with viewpoints, a linear hiking trail, regional culture and a winery in the village. The Mirador de Soutochao is located among vineyards cultivated on steep slopes several hundred metres above the Sil. As a result, the slopes and the view over the river valley together shape the landscape. The vineyards are therefore not only used for winegrowing but also form part of the structure of the steep slopes; the Sil lies below these cultivated areas and shapes the view from Doade at this elevation.

Wine landscape and viewpoints

At the entrance to the Mirador de Soutochao stands a large granite statue. It is dedicated to the grape harvesters of the region and thus refers to the work carried out in the vineyards. The car park for the Mirador de Soutochao is one kilometre from Doade. From the car park, it is 200 metres on foot to the viewpoint.

A chapel dedicated to San Mauro (San Amaro) stands at the Mirador de Pena do Castelo. Together with the Mirador de Soutochao, the Mirador de Pena do Castelo means that two viewpoints with different cultural details form part of the area around the village.

Hiking

The PR-G 157 Roteiro Augas Mestas–Doade is a linear hiking trail. Its route forms balcony-like sections several hundred metres above the Lor and Sil rivers. The trail connects the two places named in its title, Augas Mestas and Doade, while the sections high above the rivers make the trail’s connection with the landscape visible.

Culture in the surrounding area

The Mosteiro de San Paio de Abeleda monastery is located in the immediate vicinity of Doade. Several museums are also located in the area around Doade: the Centro del Vino de la Ribeira Sacra museum, the Convento das Clarisas de Monforte museum and the Museo de Casas de Muñecas museum. The destinations thus range from the wine museum to a museum in the Convento das Clarisas de Monforte and the Museo de Casas de Muñecas.

Wine tasting

Adega Algueira in Doade offers tours and wine tastings. A visit includes a guided tour of the winery with explanations of the winemaking process. This is followed by tastings of representative wines. Geographical location

Parque dos Condes is located in the area around Doade. In the wider regional surroundings of Doade are the mountain of Cabeza de Manzaneda, the hill of Alto do Rodicio and Parque Ansuiña. The places mentioned are therefore spread across the immediate area and the wider regional surroundings, without these geographical relationships being equated.
