In the surroundings of Surribas, Monte do Faro is a mountain. Monte do Faro is also designated both as a Site of Community Importance and as a Special Protection Area for natural values.

Monte Faro is located near Casa do Portomeñe in Surribas. In the area of Vilela and Serra do Farelo, pastureland and well-preserved native forests shape the landscape.

The landscape therefore brings together several clearly identified elements: Monte do Faro mountain, its designated natural area, and the open and wooded areas of Vilela and Serra do Farelo. The geographical references remain distinct: Monte Faro is associated with the surroundings of Casa do Portomeñe, while Vilela and Serra do Farelo form a separate area.

Culture and history

The Igrexa Parroquial de Santa Baia de Adá is located in the parish to which Surribas belongs and originally dates from the Romanesque period. It was rebuilt in the 16th century.

In Surribas, Casa do Portomeñe is an example of a Galician Casa Grande. It can be reached via a paved and well-signposted access road.

The church thus combines an original Romanesque architectural history with a reconstruction in the 16th century. Casa do Portomeñe complements this historical reference as a Galician Casa Grande; both details point to different forms of architectural heritage in and around Surribas.

Trails and festivals

The official route XG72800301 connects Chantada E.A. with Surribas and operates as a demand-responsive public transport service.

If you include historic routes in your travel plans, the Camiño de Inverno initially follows the course of an old Roman road within the municipality of Chantada and later that of the Camino Real. The route passes through areas of great landscape and cultural-historical interest.
