Along Mera’s seafront runs the Senda Litoral Mera, a coastal path with informative panels. The route is 3 kilometres long and takes approximately 45 minutes. It has a low level of difficulty and runs between Canide and the Aula do Mar. A wooden footbridge connects Mera Beach with the nearby Espiñeiro Beach. The coastal path, footbridge and the two beaches are therefore among the named points of this section of Mera.
For further travel planning, you can also view the destinations Santa Cruz De Oleiros and Perillo in addition to Mera.
Beach and Landscape
Mera Beach is 520 metres long and is known for its crystal-clear water and golden sand. A Lagoa is a recreational area opposite Mera Beach. The Costa de Dexo-Serantes natural monument stretches for 11 kilometres between the Mera lighthouses and the port of Lorbé. The Costa de Dexo-Serantes has been a natural monument since 2000. It is part of the Natura 2000 network as a Special Area of Conservation (ZEC). This coastal area therefore brings together a beach, a recreational area and a protected natural monument.
Nature and Visitor Centre
At the Costa de Dexo-Serantes, you can admire cliffs, watch birds and go hiking. Mera Lighthouse offers a viewpoint over the Atlantic horizon. The mouths of three rías are visible on this horizon. The Aula do Mar serves as the visitor reception centre for the Costa de Dexo-Serantes natural monument. It houses a permanent interpretive exhibition about the Costa de Dexo-Serantes.
Water and Activity
Stand-up paddleboarding is possible at Mera Beach. Boards are also available for hire there. The clear, calm waters of Mera and Espiñeiro beaches are suitable for kayaking. Training is offered from the beaches of Mera and Santa Cristina, allowing beginners to take up the sport or prepare for competition-level participation. NORDÉS Wing Foil is located at Paseo Lagoa 10, 15177, Playa de Mera, Oleiros, A Coruña. The listed services therefore include stand-up paddleboarding and kayaking, as well as training for people with different starting levels.
Culture and Events
Casa do Arxentino is a residential building in Mera that was built in the 19th century and belongs to the Historicist style. The house includes a stone arcaded courtyard and floral decoration made of ceramic tiles on the cornice. This decoration is influenced by elements of Andalusian or Portuguese Historicism. A triathlon takes place in Mera every spring. The competition includes running, cycling and swimming; it is held along the seafront promenade and in the surroundings of A Lagoa Park. The Santa Ana of Mera Festival is a traditional religious celebration. It takes place in Mera from 24 to 26 July 2026.
