Coirón: Landscape, Festivals and History
The burial mounds of A Medoña in Coiro bear witness to the early settlement of A Laracha.
Culture and History
During the constitutional phase in the early years of the 19th century, Coiro was the municipal capital.
In 1836, the municipal capital was moved to A Laracha.
These two historical details mark a change over time: Coiro initially itself served as the municipal capital before this role passed to A Laracha.
The parish of Coiro celebrates its patron saint festivals in mid-June.
They are held in honour of Corpus Christi, Santa Rita and the Blessed Sacrament.
Masses are held on the three festival days.
Thus, the festival period is not limited to a single date but comprises three consecutive festival days with a religious programme.
In recent years, it was traditional for the Coiro festival committee to organise a popular sardine festival a few weeks after the patron saint festivals.
The venue was the Rapadoiro sociocultural centre.
The sardine festival therefore took place some time after the patron saint festivals and formed part of the local event cycle.

Landscape
The Santa Marta viewpoint is located on Monte de Santa Marta.
It lies between the parishes of Coiro, Soandres and Soutullo.
The viewpoint is situated at an altitude of 432 metres.
Its location between three parishes and the stated altitude give the viewpoint a clearly defined geographical setting.
The parish of Coiro is characterised by a varied landscape.
In this landscape, the valley of the Río Anllóns contrasts with the mountains.
The landscape therefore combines two clearly identified forms: the valley of the Río Anllóns and the seemingly higher mountainous areas.
The main access road to the parish of Coiro is the provincial road CP-1913.
This road leads from A Laracha to Cerceda.
The access is thus connected to a specific road and its two named locations.
