Abegondo between Reservoir, Culture and Camino Routes

Abegondo combines waterscapes, protected nature and sites along the Camino de Santiago. At the Abegondo-Cecebre Reservoir, the O Bosque Animado route runs along part of the body of water. This part of the reservoir belongs to a Special Area of Conservation in the Natura 2000 network and to a core zone of the Mariñas Coruñesas Biosphere Reserve. At the birdwatching sites of Crendes and Piadela, the same reservoir offers good opportunities for birdwatching and photography. Nature and Water

The Beche Reservoir is considered a navigable river park. The Área de lecer de Beche, a recreational area in Abegondo, is located at the reservoir of the same name. O Bosque Animado and the Área de lecer de Beche are located at different reservoirs: the route runs along the Abegondo-Cecebre Reservoir, while the recreational area is at Beche.

Playa Gandario is located in the surroundings of Abegondo. In the wider regional area are Playa de Bastiagueiro, Playa Santa Cruz de Oleiros and Playa Perillo.

Culture along the Camino and in Sarandós

On the Camino de Santiago, the Capilla de San Juan is located in Aquelabanda in Sarandós. In Figueroa, Abegondo, the Pazo de Figueroa stands on the Inglés Way and is a pazo of civil heritage. In Abegondo, the Torres de San Tirso de Mabegondo are also among the notable architectural buildings.

In Sarandós is the house where Felipe II stayed. Other cultural destinations are located in the surroundings of Abegondo, including the Fundación Wenceslao Fernández Flórez Museum, the Museo do Xacemento Romano de Cambre, the Villa Isabel Palace and the Museo Carlos Maside. Getting Around

Regular bus services connect Abegondo with Betanzos, Santiago de Compostela and A Coruña. The nearest railway stops are Cecebre (Cambre), Guísamo (Bergondo) and the two railway stations in Betanzos. Anyone wishing to connect these destinations by bus or train should check the current timetables before travelling. Current route conditions may be relevant for routes by the water; for museums, guided visits and the routes mentioned, it is also advisable to check opening hours or dates.
