Peraleda de la Mata: Trails, Nature and Architectural Heritage

The Senda El Ángel is an almost 13-kilometre-long route connecting Valdehúncar and Peraleda de la Mata through a landscape of dehesas and granite. The Camino de los Jerónimos runs through Peraleda de la Mata and forms part of the route through the Campo Arañuelo region there. History

Its historical development thus extends from the settlement's beginnings to a later legal elevation in the 17th century.

Architectural Heritage

The Ermita del Cristo de la Humildad dates from the 18th century, while the Ermita de San Vicente dates from the 17th century. Construction work on the Iglesia de Santiago Apóstol began on 30 April 1535 and was completed in 1603. Behind its Baroque main altar, the church preserves a Renaissance altarpiece made using the Italian sgraffito technique.

The Iglesia de Santiago Apóstol is a Gothic-Renaissance church. The Diocese of Plasencia gave it the nickname “mi pequeña catedral” (“my little cathedral”).
