The Senda del Valle del Aliso begins within the town and offers a circular hike of approximately 15 kilometres; there is also a linear variant of approximately 9 kilometres. Culture and history

The small chapel now known as the Ermita de San Roque was built in 1240, in the 13th century, by the Knights Templar and is considered the oldest historic building in Cabeza del Buey. The parish church of Nuestra Señora de la Armentera, also known as La Divina Pastora, has Gothic and Renaissance portals, as well as a tower topped with glazed amphorae. La Posada, also known as Casa de la Audiencia, is a historic building in the old town next to the town hall. Its features include a three-storey stone tower, a large wrought-iron grille and a Renaissance window with a double arch and balcony on the upper floor.

The Convento de Concepcionistas Franciscanas was founded by Martín Rol; construction began in 1518 and the convent was inaugurated on 31 May 1523. The entrance has a carved stone arch, the complex includes a small chapel with worked stone elements, and a bust of Christ from the school of Mena has been preserved. The Santuario de Nuestra Señora de Belén is located 11 kilometres from Cabeza del Buey and is listed in the Monument category as an Asset of Cultural Interest (Bien de Interés Cultural). The sanctuary includes a Romanesque Templar cloister and a Baroque church.

The remains of a Roman thermal complex can be found in the surrounding area of Cabeza del Buey, at Puerto de la Nava. The archaeological site lies east of the Arroyo del Mojón, a tributary of the Río Zújar. The Centro de Interpretación de la Pintura Rupestre de Extremadura has exhibition rooms dedicated to rock art in general and, in particular, to the schematic rock art of Extremadura. The Aula de la Naturaleza in the former schools of La Nava is used for the study and observation of nature and has photographs, information panels and audiovisual rooms.

Leisure, food and traditions

The Municipal Park of Cabeza del Buey includes a children’s recreation area, sports facilities, recreation and relaxation areas, as well as spaces for events. The Gastroexperiencia Quesos Reborto includes a visit to a cave, an explanation of the cheese ageing process and a tasting of five types of cheese with a drink.

The Fiesta de San Roque is celebrated in Cabeza del Buey on 15 and 16 August and is considered the town’s most important summer festival. A traditional religious form of expression in La Serena dates back to the 16th century.
