Eller: Church, Duran and Hiking Trails

Éller lies on the right bank of the Duran, and the small village center surrounds the parish church of Santa Eulàlia d’Éller. The church is distinguished by a square apse.

The Majestat d’Éller probably comes from the church of Santa Eulàlia d’Éller. The original church is said to have been a single-nave structure. Its ground plan is said to have been trapezoidal, while the apse is considered semicircular. The original structure is also said to have included a barrel vault.

The documented architectural features include the single-nave layout, the trapezoidal ground plan, the semicircular apse and the barrel vault. The square apse of the present-day church therefore stands as a separate feature alongside the description of the original structure.

On Éller’s main square is the Font d’Eller. It comprises a fountain, a livestock watering trough and a washhouse.

The church in the village center and the Font d’Eller on the main square are two named local features within the village. The Majestat d’Éller is additionally associated with Santa Eulàlia d’Éller, but its origin remains classified as probable.

Hiking

A hike to Éller begins at the N-260 near Bellver and climbs uphill to the village. The ascent is therefore an explicitly named part of this route.

On the outbound leg, the Éller–Meranges route follows the Sender de Cerdanya SC113 to the Font de l’Àrtic. This lies near the mill of Meranges. The path runs through forests along the bank of a stream.

A circular hiking route runs from the village center of Éller towards Meranges. Both places lie in Baixa Cerdanya. On the return leg, this route first leads into the area of Pla de Matons. From there, there are views of Meranges and Puigpedrós.

The routes mentioned differ in their course: the approach from the N-260 climbs uphill to the village, while the route to Meranges uses the Sender de Cerdanya SC113. The circular hiking route starts in the village center of Éller and additionally describes a return route through the Pla de Matons area.

On the route to Meranges, the Font de l’Àrtic and the mill of Meranges form part of the described sequence of waypoints. The landscape along this section is characterized by forests and the bank of a stream. The circular hiking route, by contrast, names Meranges, Pla de Matons and Puigpedrós as interrelated points.

Landscape

The summit of Pic de les Molleres del Puigpedrós lies in the surroundings of Éller. The summit of Pic de Calm Colomer is also located in the surroundings of Éller.

The summit of Pic d'Envalira is also located in the surroundings of Éller. The summit of Pic de Font Negra likewise lies in this nearby area.

The four named summits are assigned to the same nearby area around Éller: Pic de les Molleres del Puigpedrós, Pic de Calm Colomer, Pic d'Envalira and Pic de Font Negra. Puigpedrós also appears as a viewpoint on the return leg of the circular hiking route.

In the wider regional surroundings of Éller lies the Museu Municipal De Llívia, a museum. Sant Vicenç d’Enclar is a historic site there. The Parc Infantil is also located in the wider regional surroundings.
