Alcarràs – Church, Festivals and Fruit-Growing Landscapes

Landscape and Paths

In 2025, Alcarràs Florit reached its twelfth edition and offered routes by electric bicycle and bus through fruit-growing landscapes in full bloom. The event combined two different modes of transport with an explicitly seasonal landscape. Before setting out by electric bicycle or bus, current route conditions should be checked, as practical planning depends on the respective routes.

In the Pla de l'alzina stands L'Alzina Centenària, a hundred-year-old oak that grew on a plain without any other trees. The area was formerly known as Partida del Coscollar. From the beginning of Vallmanya road L-800, a signposted path leads to L'Alzina Centenària, clearly connecting the starting point on the road with the destination beneath the trees. For signposted paths, checking current information about the route before setting out can be helpful.

The Route dels Pantans crosses the Natura 2000 site “Pantà de l'Arròs”. For routes through protected areas, checking current information about route conditions is part of the usual preparations.

Culture and Festivals

The Església Mare de Deú de l'Assumpció is a Baroque church built over the remains of the original castle. Construction of this church was completed in 1786. Those interested in culture will find the Baroque church and the remains of the original castle brought together in a historical context at this site.

The Festa Major d'Hivern is celebrated in honour of Sant Sebastià on 20 January and lasts four days. Depending on the calendar, these four days of festivities may fall before or after 20 January, so the period does not necessarily fall entirely on the stated date. For festivals with a fixed commemorative date, the specific event calendar should be checked before travelling.

Festive and traditional activities currently take place at the Casa de Montagut, including the Festa de Santa Anna in July. For venues, current opening hours and dates are among the practical details that can be checked before visiting.

Local Produce

The annual autumn fair Fira de Comerç i Rebost promotes local fruit and meat. In its provisions section, the programme includes jam-making workshops, tastings of products from Alcarràs, exhibitions of handicrafts, show cooking and wine pairings. Food, crafts, preparation and wine are brought together within a single event framework.

Surroundings

The surroundings of Alcarràs include the Fundació Sorigué Museum, the Galería de Arte Terraferma Museum, Castillo de Vinfaro, a castle, and the Galeria d'Art Espai Cavallers Museum.
