Landscape

Vilademuls is characterised by gently rolling terrain: hills and elevations, broad valleys and small plains are among the defining landscape features of the area.

History

The village of Vilademuls was surrounded by a wall. A monumental gateway has been preserved.

Its round arch is built with voussoirs and dates from the 13th century; the surviving wall remains also include part of the wall base.

The façade of the Church of Sant Joan Baptista features a Gothic entrance portal. Its inscription refers to the rebuilding of the temple in 1560.

The Church of Sant Joan Baptista contains the ossuary of Saurina de Cervelló. The ossuary bears the coats of arms of Vilademuls and Rocabertí; an inscription gives the year 1307.

Vilademuls Castle was built in the 11th century. It was a territorial castle with jurisdiction over all the villages in the Barony of Vilademuls.

The historic heritage therefore includes the wall, gateway, church, ossuary and castle, each with its own architectural, chronological or local details.

A preserved oratory stands in a field near Can Guapanoia. It dates from the 18th century, consists of two large sections and is topped by a cross.

Culture

The Museu Rural de Vilademuls contains more than 500 objects. These were formerly used in rural life.

The museum also recreates an old farmhouse. Through its objects, it conveys the rural history and the history of earlier generations.

At the Museu Rural, the collection is combined with a presentation of an old farmhouse. The objects refer to former rural life and to the history of several generations, which is conveyed in the museum through the reconstructed house and its furnishings.
